Blake Dawson Waldron 'Inside OHS' Award 2003
|
BMA Goonyella Riverside Mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, entered a rim-related safety improvement project recommended to the mine by Klinge Tyre Management Consultant of Brisbane in the national 2003 ‘Inside OHS’ Competition – and won. This project was based around Rimex Canada redesign their double gutter rim to suit a new truck fleet of super large haulers at the mine. The panel of judges selected this entry as the winner for a number of reasons: The project was team driven, almost completely eliminated the hazard (manual handling) and provided added benefits in terms of reduced production downtime, by a staggering 80%, without incurring additional costs. The rims have now been fitted for some 2 years without problems and the initiative continues to deliver direct benefits to the mine and its tyre service personnel.
